Being Pretty with Lindsey Regan Thorne

Hey Pretty Ladies!!

I had the opportunity to catch up with my sweet friend, Lindsey who’s the owner of BE PRETTY!

Y’all, she’s an amazing, chick who’s crazy talented and has the heart of gold.  Read through for our fun little q + a . . . . then below for a look inside her world!  xo-deb

OP:  WHY SHOULD BRIDES HIRE A HAIR / MAKEUP ARTIST?
LRT:  It’s your wedding day and all eyes will be on you (and your man, of course!).  There’s not a better time in your life to make sure that all of your oil is controlled, your eyes sparkle, your cheeks are rosey and your lips glisten.  ANDDDDD… let’s be real, these aren’t selfies you’re taking.  You have hired a photographer who will give you pictures to cherish for the rest of your life… my job is to ensure that your flyways are tamed and your makeup lasts the night!

OP:  WHY SHOULD THEY PICK YOU … THERE’S LOTS OF TALENT THERE OR YOU CAN JUST GO TO THE MALL’S MAC COUNTER, RIGHT?
LRT:  I would pick a professional on location makeup and hair artist, mainly because they come to you.  There’s nothing more fun that walking into a bridal suite, where the bridesmaids and bride are cheers’ing in matching robes.  It’s such a girly and relaxed atmosphere… and who doesn’t love a little champagne, pampering and girl time… all while in the relaxing comfort of their hotel room.

OP:  HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE INDUSTRY?
LRT:  Five years in October!

OP:  DO YOU HAVE A TYPICAL ‘BRIDE’ PACKAGE OR ARE YOU MORE A LA CARTE?
LRT:  I have a typical bride package (includes makeup and hair for wedding day and a full trial run).  Brides can then add on rehearsal dinner makeup and hair and portrait
sessions.

OP:  ARE YOU STILL STYLING CLIENTS FOR PHOTO SHOOTS?
LRT:  I sure do!  However, if you’re on a budget, hop into a store like J.Crew and get their onsite stylist to help you… they’re GREAT!

OP: OMGAH. HOW CUTE IS YOUR BABY….
HOW ARE YOU ABLE TO DO HAIR/MAKEUP AND BE HENRY’S MOMMA?!
LRT:  I love this question!  Fave question I’ve ever answered.  Ever.  Henry is an
AWESOME baby (and a crazy baby!), as much as this mama enjoys each-and-every-waking-second with her wild boy, mommy sometimes needs a little break.  So, when mommy has client bookings, mommy very much so enjoys her (girly!) adult interaction.  Not too mention (besides time spent with my son and hubby), there’s nothing I love more, than making ladies feel fabulous.  It’s a great balance.  During the week I do some “on-location” bookings, but most of my time is spent beautifying out of my girly studio.  While I’m working, my little man is at school, where come to find out, he’s quite the ladies man.

OP:  WHAT’S IN YOUR PURSE RIGHT NOW?
LRT:  Ready for it?!  NO MAKEUP, besides my staple lipgloss by MAC (Pink Poodle), boogie wipes (for the babe), wallet that is busting at the seems with receipts, empty gum wrappers, wrinkled up coupons that I never use, keys.  My purse is rather lame.

OP:  WHAT’S YOUR MUST-DO’S FOR HAIR/MAKEUP WHEN LEAVING THE HOUSE?
LRT:  Hair = dry shampoo (ain’t nobody got time to wash) and a few little curls — voila.  Makeup = mascara, Kat Von D powder (amazing!!!), blush and then gloss.  I apply extra blush these days, trying to camouflage the extra lbs!

OP:  WHAT’S YOUR DRIVE TO DO WHAT YOU DO?
LRT:  The most rewarding part of my job is when my client looks in the mirror for the first time after I’ve finished her makeup.  It brings tears to my eyes to hear ladies say that they “feel pretty”.  I seriously love my job, I love my brides and I love the vendors that I get to work with.

OP:  TOP 5 CAN’T-LIVE-WITH-OUT’S?!
LRT:  1.) Henry 2.) my best girlfriends 3.) music 4.) instagram 5.) oh, yea… the hubby (guess he fits in there)

OP:  WHY DO YOU THINK WEDDING STATIONERY IS SUPER IMPORTANT?
LRT:  Ahhhhhhhhh… stationery is one of my absolute favorites.  I feel like it ties everything together.  Some of my all time favorite photographs from a wedding are of the graphics.  I also feel like stationery is so important because it’s the first thing guests see leading up to the wedding.  It’s like the sneak peek!  Plus, who doesn’t LOVE working with the super talented stationery artist like DEB!  Heart you, girlfriend!  xoxo

Beaumont – O’Kuinghttons Wedding :: 5/17/14

This beautiful wedding was one of my favorite designs in May and was a referral from another super sweet bride of mine … so I knew I would love this couple instantly.  Can we just talk about how GORGEOUS this couple is!?!?  All of their wedding details were simple, beautiful, and just the right amount of fun details at the wedding reception.  They asked me to make a custom Thank You Note out of this awesome photo … which turned out great, if I do say so myself!

COLBY & MICHAEL :: 05.31.14

It’s been a busy May & June for me (which is totally awesome!!) but this sweet bride wrapped up my May wedding month and she was the PERFECT bride …. and to boot, Colby so beautiful on the inside and out.

Some of you may know that I am dealing with my Grandparents not-so-great-health issues —–> enter a sweet phone call from Colby the day before she leaves for her wedding in Asheville to ask how they are doing … and then a text from her mom asking the same question.  I kid you not.  This girl has it together.  So, I don’t normally feature full weddings on my blog, but I had to with her.  Why …. well, #1) she’s beautiful … #2) she’s got a heart of gold  #3) her and her sweet mother were amazing to work with.  #4) and last but not least, I really liked how her wedding invitations turned out.

Photographer KATY COOK was so kind to share a few images from Colby & Michael’s big day (which took place at one my my favorite venues: Lionscrest at Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina). Check out these lovelies ~ and see all of the OLIVE PAPER details from her Wedding & Reception!  (beautiful florals provided by The Bloom Room)

THE BRIDE & GROOM’S LAST NAME :: GRANDE!  LOVE IT!

Get Some Sol.

Sol Fusion has exploded this last year.

Haven’t heard of them? Well, you must not get out in Charlotte too much.  This awesome band is LITERALLY everywhere.  Weddings.  Alive After 5 (yup, the crowd has grown up a little – it’s okay to try AA5 again…). Festivals.  You name it – these guys are there.

I met the band’s ‘co-creator’ {not too sure if that’s the actual / appropriate title – but work with me here} about 7+ years ago when I produced events at The Atrium/The Green/The Plaza and he was the official barkeep (among a million other things) for East Coast Entertainment and Alive After 5.  Chris McClure.  Awesome Dude.  His day job is an Agent over at East Coast Entertainment.  So, in a nutshell – he’s got this cutie-patootie wife, Hester, who just happens to have vocal chords straight from Heaven.

Thus, Sol Fusion was born.  Pretty sure it happened just like that.

OH – and you might recognize Hester from her days with the band Black & Blue.

In a nutshell – if you’re getting married & want a band, you need to hire them.  They are the jammm.  Really. They are.

Like the kind of band that will make Grandma wanna get up and bust a move.
